Pediatric to Senior Orthopedics

Our team of orthopedic physicians welcome pediatric to elderly patients.  If you suffer from growth plate concerns or scoliosis as a youngster, or if you worry about hip or knee replacement as a senior, Askins Orthopaedics will provide conservative, common-sense care.

Arthroscophic to Arthroplasty

knee x-ray KNEE REPLACEMENT X-RAY

During arthoscopy, a pencil-sized arthroscope and other surgical instruments are inserted into a joint through tiny incisions.  A video camera attached to the arthroscope enables the surgeon to see within the the joint and repair any damage.  Arthroscopy is much less invasive than traditional "open" surgery, reducing scarring, postoperative pain, and recovery time.  Most patients are home within a few hours after the procedure.

Dr. Askins is a highly trained sports medicine professional.  He performs  arthroscopic surgery including anterior cuciate ligament reconstruction, arthroscopic cartilage transplantation (OATS procedure), meniscal surgery and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.  Most athletes can be successfully treated without surgery, so we have established close working relationships with highly trained physical therapists and physiatrists (doctor specializing in physical medicine) in the community.

Neck & Back Pain in Sarasota, Bradenton, Englewood, Lakewood Ranch, & Arcadia

Back pain is one of the most common reasons to see a physician.  With on site digital X-Ray, our physicians are well-equipped to treat your pain.  Statistically, 90% of all patients with acute (less than 1 month duration) back pain are cured after our treatments.  Our physicians rely on scientific studies to provide proven remedies and help you to avoid other expensive and sometimes unreliable treatments.  When patients need them, we can frequently provide trigger point injections and epidural steroid injections to relieve nerve root impingement.  These injections are done at our surgery center if insurance permits.  If neccessary, we have a board certified network of neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, physiatrists, and pain management specialits who work with us at GulfCoast Surgery Center in Sarasota and will see you expeditiously because of our professional relationship.

Work Related Accidents

Askins Orthopedics also specializes in work related accidents and injuries.  We will work closely with your employer, adjuster, and/or nurse case manager to get you back to work. Many work related injuries are not surgical and can be remedied through physical therapy or other forms of conservative care.

Askins & Miller also perform Independent Medical Exams (IMEs) for workers' compensation cases. The prices can vary depending on size of case file, so contact our Work Comp Coordinator, Chris, by clicking on the "Workers' Compensation" link in the sidebar.
